Questions people ask

When are your services?

We meet three times a week, all at 7 Cheno-U-Meskinam in Mistissini: Sunday morning worship at 10:00 AM, a Sunday evening service at 7:00 PM, and Wednesday Bible study at 7:00 PM. You can add any of them to your phone’s calendar from the links above. If you’re ever unsure whether we’re meeting (a holiday weekend, bad weather), our Facebook page is where changes are posted first.

Where do I park?

There’s a gravel lot right at the building. The curb at the entrance makes it easiest for trucks and SUVs, so smaller cars usually park on the street. That’s what most people do, and it’s a short walk. In winter the lot is cleared and the curb is buried, so everyone parks on site.

How long is the service?

Plan on about two and a half hours on Sunday morning: we start at 10:00 and usually finish around 12:30. The Sunday evening service and Wednesday Bible study both run about two hours, from 7:00 to around 9:00. Nobody’s counting, and you’re free to slip out if you need to.

What should I wear?

Come as you are. On any given Sunday you’ll see everything from Sunday best to jeans and a hoodie, and nobody’s keeping score. Wear what you’re comfortable in.

I’m bringing my kids. What is there for them?

On Sunday morning there’s Sunday school for children aged 4 to 11, with a simple check-in so you know exactly where your child is. There’s also a mothers’ room for feeding or settling a little one. Children are welcome in the service too. You’ll hear little ones on a Sunday, and that’s fine with us. Sunday school runs on Sunday morning only; on Sunday evening and at Wednesday Bible study, kids stay with their family.

What language is the service in?

English. The singing, the preaching and everything from the front are in English. Once in a while a guest speaker will weave a little Cree into their message, and you’ll hear Cree spoken around the room before and after (this is a Cree community), but you won’t need it to follow along.

What happens when I walk in?

Come on in and find a seat anywhere you like. There’s no sign-in sheet and no name tag, and nobody will ask you to stand up or introduce yourself. We stand to sing during worship, but if you’d rather stay seated, that’s completely fine. If you’d like to meet one of the pastors, just ask. They’re around before and after the service.

Is the building accessible?

The main entrance has steps, and there’s a ramp beside them. If you need anything specific to make the morning work, text or call us ahead of time and we’ll sort it out.

What is the service actually like?

We start with worship, singing together, and then one of the pastors teaches from the Bible. Pastors Kennedy and Tiffany Daniels share the preaching: plain, Bible-centered teaching meant to help you follow Jesus in everyday life. People pray out loud, and God moves. You’ll see hands raised and people responding at the front. Nobody will expect anything of you, and you’re welcome to just watch. Afterwards there’s time to talk before you head home, and some Sundays there are refreshments and people stay a while.

Will I be asked to give money?

No. There’s a moment in the service when the church family gives tithes and offerings: a bucket goes by, and many people give by e-Transfer or online instead. Let it pass; nobody is watching, and nothing here depends on it. Giving is never forced and never under compulsion. It’s a partnership with God first of all, and what anyone gives is a free choice made between them and Him.

What if I arrive late?

Come in anyway; it’s okay. Nobody minds, and nobody will make anything of it. Worship runs for the first stretch of the service, so if you’re a few minutes behind you won’t have missed the message.

Can I watch online instead?

Yes. The Sunday morning service streams live on YouTube, and past messages stay on the channel so you can catch up any time. The Sunday evening service and Wednesday Bible study are in person only.

I have a question that isn’t here.

Text us at (581) 333-1522, call (581) 333-8885, send a note through Connect, or email church@victoryfaith.ca. A real person answers, usually within the week, and if you let us know you’re coming for the first time, we’ll keep an eye out for you.
